Santa Fe is only an hour north of Santuario Grande — and on a Friday evening it is one of the most rewarding drives in the Southwest. The city transforms at dusk: galleries glow with warm light, the air cools to perfection, and the adobe architecture turns golden in the last sunlight.
Start on Canyon Road, the world-famous mile-long gallery district, where over 80 galleries display painting, sculpture, ceramics, and jewelry. On summer Fridays many galleries host opening receptions — free wine and new work.
For dinner, the options are legendary: The Shed has been serving red and green chile enchiladas since 1953. Coyote Cafe, Cafe Pasqual's, and La Choza each represent a different chapter of New Mexico's culinary story.
The drive back through the darkening desert, with stars appearing above, is one of those moments that makes you grateful you are here.
